This is NC Cooperative Extension staff-focused training on landowner-based education to county landowning and farming constituents on matters of land ownership. Topics for discussion include county management and staff perspective on land issues concerning zoning, land subdivision requirements and bona fide farm zoning exemption; present use value tax program administration and landowner qualification (including change of use and transfer); issues of trespass and wildlife management; and basic timber management. Speakers include county PUV tax administrator, official from county zoning and planning, officer(s) from sheriff’s office or Wildlife Resource Commission; county forester staff. NCSU faculty will discuss legal issues regarding land title, farm leases, easements, Voluntary Agricultural Districts and land transfer. Also included in the program is discussion of NC Farm Link, NC Extension’s new program working to find land access opportunities for farmers. The purpose of this program is to assess county extension need and desire for landowner-based education with the goal of 1) organizing more landowner-based education workshops and, 2) developing further resources (both workshop and web/print) to serve a core Cooperative Extension constituency and to assist NC FarmLink in identifying potential land opportunities for farmers.
