Project Goals and Results
We help North Carolina students and young adults discover clear, attainable pathways into conservation careers, with a primary focus on roles at USDA–NRCS. Students also learn about related opportunities with conservation districts, Extension, state agencies, nonprofits, and private firms.

A student-friendly, offline-capable tool that shows how to turn interest in the outdoors, agriculture, and science into real jobs.
What it will do:
- NRCS pathways first: step-by-step routes into NRCS (Pathways internships, Recent Graduate roles, entry-level positions), plus how to use USAJOBS, build a simple federal résumé, and align coursework
- NRCS role spotlights: soil conservationist, soil conservation technician, soil scientist, engineering technician, conservation planner
- Also covers related careers: conservation district technician, Cooperative Extension assistant, forestry/wildlife technician, watershed/restoration technician, environmental field/GIS technician, land trust stewardship
- Cross-overs and next steps: how early skills earned with NRCS translate to partner organizations, state agencies, nonprofits, and private consulting/engineering firms
- Preparation toolkit: checklists for classes, certifications, and field experience; portfolio and résumé builder; sample shadow request email
- Find opportunities: internship and hiring calendars for NRCS and partners; quick links to local field offices for informational visits and shadows
